Locally, you might recognize me as the person who sold you stamps or mailed your packages at the
post office down the street from here. Before working for the Postal Service I had worked as the executive chef at The
Peck House in Empire, Colorado and as a pastry chef at Dauphin's in New Orleans. Life is like a drug - it is short and
it sometimes hurts. I decided to take a leap of faith and leave the security of my postal job to do what I like to do best
- to create personals works for your desire. If you can think of a cake or pastry item - I will make it for you. You decide
on the design, the cake flavor, the frosting and the filling. As some of you know, when I worked freelance from home - I specialize
in sugar-free cakes as well. The sugar is substituted with fruit and honey.
Oil portraits
are my personal favorite although I paint westerns and landscapes as well. People have always fascinated me; alike in so many
ways, but each one of us are special and unique. Although getting the likeness is an understood prerequisite in portrait painting,
I want to go deeper to capture the beautiful uniqueness of each person—the heart and personality. This is so much more
than painting the eyes, nose and mouth accurately. It’s about seeing the special qualities that God loves about that
person, how he or she is uniquely created in His Image and deeply loved by Him.
Doing that takes time, so I do require
TWO MONTHS notice before creating an oil portrait. I prefer to take time to know my subject and discover the beauty of
this unique human being, one of a kind in the world. Sometimes this is an unconscious process. The lady in my sample portrait
shared with me after posing for the painting remarked, “ I’ve never liked the way I look in photographs. You painted
me the way I see myself.” This is success to me!
Whether it is a wedding cake
or an oil portrait - these items can be treasured legacies for generations to come.
