(March 2010)
.
Personally, I love March 17trh - St Patrick's Day. This is the one and only day where i can claim to be Irish. Oh
yeah, sure I have my doubters on here about me being Irish. Just ask my rabbi!!
.
For me the one day that I get to be Irish, is that I love the Irish humor.
.
There is part of me that feels strange writing ethnic
jokes. I was a Postal Worker for 13 years before opening up my own business. "Celebrate Diversity" was their
motto - but I prefer to "Celebrate Unity."
.
"Hiya, Murphy.....what can get for you today?" the bartender asks.
.
"Thank ya laddie, I want a
well martini with an olive."
.
The
bartender gives Murphy a well martini with an olive, This goes on for hours and as the bartender gives Murphy a martini -
Murphy places the olives in a jar.
.
After
the twelve martini, the bartender's curiousity is piqued. "Okay, Murphy, everytime
I give you a martini, you pull out the olives and place them in a jar - what gives?"
.
Murphy says - "By gosh and begorrin', me wife sent me out to buy a jar
of of olives - that's all."
.
Those of you know me personally, know that I am not of the Christian faith,
but I am an open-minded Jew who explores all avenues. From my understanding, St. Patrick was one of the most influentual missionaries
in Ireland in attempting to bring the Christian gospel to his country.
.
In his early life, St. Patrick was captured by early barbarians of his
own country and taken as a slave to tend to sheep. During that time, St. Patrick converted
to the the Lord in same way as Judaism's King David.
.
After six years, the Lord told St. Patrick to leave Ireland immediately and to travel 200 miles towards Britain.
Eventually, the Lord called St. Patrick home to hang around the "droogs" of his day - the alcoholics, prostitutes
and other criminal elements as a light and testimony of the Lord. St. Patrick prepared for his work by becoming a priest and
after two years, he returned to Ireland.
.
St.
Patrick was thrilled to be able to answer the Lord's call and to be able to help his friends in a nation that was drowned
in darkness.
.
St. Patrick
- "Thanks be to g-d, after many years, the Lord gave to (the Irish people) according to their cry."
.
As I look out of window this morning as I am writing
this blog, I am actually looking at the first robin that I have seen in 2010. Besides the festive items on the portfolio page,
I see a new beginning.
.
St. Patrick's Day is truly an enchanted time. It is truly a day where winter's dreams turn into summer's
magic.
